Overview
This is a reminder that Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) will be deprecated on April 11th, 2019.
Google has announced that they are deprecating GCM effective April 11th, 2019 in favor of a new cloud-messaging platform they released called Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). VMware is working diligently to ensure compatibility with the new Google standard of FCM. Moving forward all Android push notification functionality will be supported using Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) service.
In order to support the new FCM service, the VMware Workspace ONE UEM Console, the Intelligent Hub, and the Workspace ONE app require updates to ensure compatibility. Currently, compatible versions of the Intelligent Hub, the Workspace ONE app, and Console are available as outlined in this article. Please subscribe to the article here to be notified once a compatible version has been made available.
Customer Impact
Customers should plan to upgrade their environments and apps to FCM compatible versions before the deprecation of the FCM service occurs. Customers who have not upgraded their deployed apps and their environments will experience unexpected behaviors outlined in the Customer Impact section of this article.
