Google Network Requirement Changes

Overview

Google currently requires end-user Android devices to reach specific Google endpoints for access to apps and services. The list of endpoints required are mentioned in the VMware Workspace ONE UEM Recommended Architecture Guide.

Google recently added a new endpoint to their Network Requirements for devices on version Android Oreo (8.0+) and above to allow internal and public application downloads to be initiated. Google has confirmed changes in the captive portal check was designed to detect restricted networks and ensure best experience for end-users of Android.

Customer Impact

Customers with Android devices running on OS 8.0 and above will not be able to download internal and public applications if the network does not allow access to https://www.google.com. This will only affect the apps published via Apps & Books page and does not affect apps and products published via Product Provisioning.

Customers require to open network access to www.google.com for Android devices running Android Oreo and above when publishing managed applications via Apps & Books page in WS1 UEM console.
