Symptoms
Devices are assigned the wrong ownership type after enrollment when Send Email to User When Adding Missing Users is set to Enabled, while adding a new user group. This issue is caused due to a corrupt enrollment token.
Even when the enrollment mode is set to ‘open enrollment’, an enrollment token is created erroneously. The only scenario when a token should be created along with an email sent to the user is with the enrollment authentication mode set to Registered devices only and when Send Email to User When Adding Missing Users to Enabled.
Workaround
While adding a new usergroup, set Send Email to User When Adding Missing Users to Disabled, when enrollment mode is set to Open Enrollment.
Fix Version
This issue has been addressed with the release of VMware Workspace ONE UEM 1811.
