How to renew DEP/VPP tokens after updating Apple ID password associated with DEP configuration

Overview

When a console administrator changes the password of the Apple ID associated with the DEP configuration, the DEP and VPP tokens associated with the account will be revoked.

Customer Impact

When the password for the Apple ID associated with the DEP configuration is changed, console administrators may find they are no longer able to assign/remove profiles or add a new profile. Additionally, newly added serial numbers will no longer sync over to the Workspace ONE UEM console. The logs will show an error similar to the example below, indicating the token has expired. This error occurs even though the expiration date of the token (under Devices & Users > Apple Device Enrollment Program) has not yet expired.

DEP_Log: Error response while fetching session token from apple - token_expiredUnauthorized

Resolution

On the UEM Console, the revoked DEP token can be renewed under Groups & Settings > All Settings > Devices and users > Apple > Device Enrollment Program. And the revoked VPP token can be renewed under Groups & Settings > All Settings > Devices and users > Apple > VPP Managed Distribution.
