Samsung ELM Service merged with AirWatch Agent for Android

Starting with Agent 8.2 for Android, the Samsung ELM Service will be bundled into the AirWatch Agent for Android for new enrollments and Android Work Managed devices. Users no longer need to install an additional application to gain access to Samsung advanced capabilities. For existing enrollments, the Samsung ELM Service will still be updated to gain access to new features.

This has introduced some changes to the user experience and functionality with regards to new enrollment flows, update flows from previous versions, Knox Play for Work, and Knox Container Only Mode.

Samsung Knox Container Only Mode

The following only affects new enrollments into Knox Container Only Mode with Agent 8.2 for Android.

When enrolled into Knox Container Only Mode, the AirWatch Agent is now accessible from inside the container. There is an option available to access the AirWatch Agent in the Knox settings menu which launches the AirWatch Agent. This gives the user the ability to view current status, send/sync data, send debug logs, and perform other troubleshooting tasks. Under the Android Agent settings in the Workspace ONE UEM console, the "Block User Unenrollment" settings allows you to show or hide the unenroll option in the AirWatch Agent menu. This option is useful in cases where the Enterprise Wipe command either does not reach the device or encounters an error, in which the device may get trapped in Container Only Mode. Additionally, the Agent 8.2 for Android will automatically update from Google Play, according to the device Play Store settings.

Samsung Knox Play for Work

Agent 8.2 for Android will provide the ability to automatically install Public Apps into the Knox Container. Users must enroll their device with Agent 8.2 for Android with the proper Workspace ONE UEM console configurations to achieve this functionality. Information on configuring Knox Play for Work is available on My Workspace ONE.
