Beginning with VMware AirWatch Workspace ONE UEM Console 9.4, Zebra Stage Now is supported. Administrators can configure and generate device enrollment barcodes for both Android Legacy and Work Managed device enrollments entirely within VMware AirWatch.
Note: Stage Now barcode enrollment requires a future version of VMware AirWatch Agent for Android, which is to be announced in the near future.
Stage Now is a proprietary barcode scanning and device configuration tool created by Zebra. With Android 7.0 (Nougat), Zebra has removed the legacy Rapid Deployment client from devices, which leaves Stage Now as the primary barcode enrollment method for Nougat devices. Some important restrictions to consider include:
- Zebra Stage Now enrollment requires devices to have Android 7.0 (Nougat) and MX version 7.1+
- Zebra devices running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and below must continue to use Rapid Deployment as the barcode staging method.
- Stage Now barcode enrollment requires a future version of VMware AirWatch Agent for Android (to be announced in the near future).
Implications for Customers
Zebra Stage Now is available with Workspace ONE UEM Console 9.4, however, is not able to be fully utilized until the next Android Agent release (TBD). VMware AirWatch recommends adhering to the restrictions outlined previously to avoid encountering any potential issues.
Please reach out to your Zebra representative for more information on updating existing devices to Android 7.0 (Nougat) and MX 7.1+.
