Adding Personal Calendars to Boxer Configured with Android

Overview

Android containerizes the OS removing the capability of transferring personal data to work data and vice versa. Therefore, once Android is enabled Boxer can no longer read the device calendars located in the personal container.

Process

The following process assumes that Android is enabled and the Boxer application being pushed to Android device.

IMAP/POP

  1. Enable personal accounts in the Boxer app settings. This setting is found in the advanced settings when assigning Boxer to a group. This setting allows the Boxer app to enable device calendars

  2. Add an email application in AirWatch that can handle IMAP/POP calendars such as Gmail.
    1. Boxer only supports IMAP/POP for email by design and will not sync calendars.
    2. It is recommended to make this app deployment the same as Boxer. Example: If Boxer is automatically deployed then this app should be automatically deployed as well
  3. Create an Android restrictions profile that allows users to add third party personal calendar accounts and adding/removing accounts. By default, Android has these settings disabled and they will need to be re-enable through the restrictions profile 3.png
  4. End Users should be instructed to open the second email application which was deployed to the device. Once the app is open, users should log into their personal calendar account. Users should wait until the emails have synced to the second app before continuing
  5. End users should be instructed to open the Boxer app and tap on the settings button and scroll down until they find a toggle for enabling device calendars. Once enabled, the personal email account linked to the personal calendar should be visible in Boxer
  6. The calendar will start to populate with personal calendar items

Additional Information

  • To add additional personal accounts, users should go into the second email app and add another account to that app.
    • Adding additional accounts will populate the OS calendar database with additional events from the newly added email address.
    • Boxer pulls the information from the OS database to populate the calendar and will sync after a brief period
