Changes to Content Gateway Java Installer (2.3.1) in Workspace ONE UEM (AirWatch) Console 9.3

Version Identified

Workspace ONE UEM (AirWatch) Console 9.3+

Content Gateway 2.3.1+

With the release of Workspace ONE UEM (AirWatch) Console 9.3, the following two changes have been implemented in Content Gateway Java installer:

  • An internet connection is now required for Linux servers on which Content Gateway is to be installed, for both basic mode and Relay-Endpoint mode. This change ensures all dependent packages are fetched from the global repository and installed via the installer.
  • Unlicensed RHEL Operating Systems will not be supported. Below is the command to verify if a RHEL server OS is subscribed (licensed):
    $ subscription-manager -list
    This command will give the subscription status of the Linux Server. If the status does not explicitly state that the server is Subscribed, then only proceed with upgrading to Content Gateway 2.3.1 after purchasing a RHEL subscription.

Customer Impact

The Content Gateway installer installs certain RPMs from the EPEL repository; an internet connection is required for the installer to reach the EPEL repository.

In cases where the Linux servers do not have an internet connection, the installation action will fail, which may result in unstable and defective behavior by the Content Gateway. In order to address these use cases, an option to install missed packages manually after the initial installation is available. To perform this post installation task, please refer to the Content Gateway Guide.

As installing RPM packages on unlicensed RHEL operating systems is no longer supported, the installer will not install the dependent packages required by Content Gateway. This failure in installation will result in functionality failures.
