Background
As an effort to improve quality, VMware AirWatch is continuing to deliver features as part of monthly releases. These features will be shipping in smaller, iterative releases as opposed to larger, major releases.
Moving forward, releases will continue to use an updated versioning scheme for monthly updates by incrementing the “minor” version (ex: “9.x”), as opposed to the Feature Pack version (ex: “9.2.x”) which was previously updated for Feature Pack releases.
This versioning change better reflects the volume features included in each release.
Customer Impact
Since the version scheme is changing, it is important to note there is no technical impact as the frequency of releases or volume of features is not changing.
- Customers with On-Premises installations of VMware AirWatch can still perform self-upgrades for all releases or request professional services for upgrades.
- VMware AirWatch policy for General Support Phase is unchanged and remains to be 18 months from the General Availability of each major and minor release of this product.
