Important Notification: Critical Changes to AirWatch Upgrade Process

If you are upgrading from a version on or above 8.2 GA

Note: If you have a load balancer in front of your AirWatch Device Services server we recommend redirecting all 443-inbound traffic to a maintenance page during the AirWatch upgrade.

1. Set the Startup Type for the World Wide Web Publishing service to “Disabled” on all AirWatch Application Servers (Console, Device Services, API, AWCM)

  • This can be done by navigating to Services > selecting the World Wide Web Publishing service > right clicking on the service and selecting “Properties” > changing the dropdown option to “Disabled” and selecting “Apply”, or by running the PowerShell script – Set-Service “W3SVC” –StartupType Disabled

  • When prompted please install .NET 4.6.2
  • If requested please reboot the service. Once the server comes back online and you log in the AirWatch Application Installer should start automatically, but if not please start it again to continue with the upgrade

3. Wait until you see the prompt on all application servers stating “IIS and all services are stopped. Please update your database using the database install package”

4. Run all required DB installer files from one of the application servers

5. Once the database is fully upgraded to the final desired version, please return to the AirWatch application servers and click “Yes” to continue the upgrade

6. Follow the prompts and the AirWatch Installation guide to complete the application upgrade

7. Once the upgrade is complete, please ensure all AirWatch services are started and re-enable the World Wide Web Publishing service on all the application servers
