Google Chrome browser to deprecate trust in existing Symantec-issued certificates

In a recent blog post, Google’s Chrome browser has announced it’s intent to deprecate and remove trust in Symantec-issued certificates to mitigate certain security issues that have been identified.

Customer Impact

As of August 8, 2017, Chrome would gradually begin mistrusting all Symantec, GeoTrust, Thawte and RapidSSL branded certificates issued before June 1, 2016. If this change is implemented, customers that have certificates issued prior to June 1, 2016 could see some operational disruption.

Alert: Customer action recommended

In order to preemptively mitigate any operational disruption, we recommend that customers reissue and replace any certificates issued prior to June 1, 2016, before the August 8, 2017 deadline. This action will avoid the risk of having your certificates mistrusted by the Chrome browser.
