Troubleshoot VMware Tunnel Disconnect on Android Devices

Overview

On some Android devices, primarily Samsung devices, there is an option to manually disconnect from a VPN on an OS level. End users trigger this disconnect from the notifications bar. Opening the VPN is activated by Tunnel notification allows end users to select the disconnect option. 

VMware Tunnel does not support this disconnection method.  If a device is disconnected through the OS notification, you must follow the troubleshooting steps to reconnect the VMware Tunnel app.

Troubleshooting

If an end user disconnects on the OS level, on-demand VPN through VMware Tunnel breaks temporarily. You must reconnect the VMware Tunnel for Android app before the tunnel can trigger again.

To reconnect the tunnel:

  1. Go to Agent
  2. Go to the profiles section
  3. Find the VPN profile
  4. Long hold on profile
  5. Select Re-apply
  6. Observe issue is resolved

If the above steps do not work, try rebooting the device.
