Troubleshoot VMware AirWatch Tunnel Disconnect on Android Devices

On some Android devices, primarily Samsung devices, there is an option to manually disconnect from a VPN on an OS level. End users trigger this disconnect from the notifications bar. Opening the VPN is activated by Tunnel notification allows end users to select the disconnect option.

AirWatch does not support this disconnection method. If a device is disconnected through the OS notification, you must follow the troubleshooting steps to reconnect the VMware AirWatch Tunnel app.

If an end user disconnects on the OS level, on-demand VPN through AirWatch Tunnel breaks temporarily. You must reconnect the AirWatch Tunnel for Android app before the tunnel can trigger again.

To reconnect the tunnel:

  1. Open AirWatch Tunnel application on the Android device.
  2. Select the Tunnel Profile.
  3. Wait for the Tunnel Application to enter a prepared state.
Depending on the OS/Tunnel version, the AirWatch tunnel application connects automatically. If it does not connect automatically, proceed to step 4.
  4. Launch a white-listed application to engage on-demand VPN.

If the above steps do not work, try rebooting the device.
