Persisting AirWatch Launcher on Zebra Android Devices

Background

By design, the AirWatch Launcher is downloaded from the console when a Launcher Profile is installed.  With Zebra Rugged Android devices, “MDM Persistence” is a key feature and requires an additional workflow step to ensure proper launcher startup after an Enterprise Reset.  The appropriate rugged guides have also been updated with this information.

Implications for customers

If the below workflow is not adhered to, Launcher will not be appropriately installed after an Enterprise Reset or OS Upgrade.

Resolution:

Within the Staging and Provisioning Menu, perform the following steps to create a persistent Launcher:

  • Create Launcher Profile
  • Create Application
    • Select/Upload APK (Launcher APK must be downloaded from resource portal)
  • Create Product
    • Add manifest item with action type set to  Install Profile
      • Select the profile created above
      • Check the Persistent through enterprise reset option
    • Add manifest item with action type set to Install Application
      • Select the application created above
      • Check the Persistent through enterprise reset option
  • Activate the Product

Note: If Launcher was previously installed with legacy profile (non-provisioning), you do not need to recreate and reinstall the Launcher profile
