Introducing VMware AirWatch® Agent 6.2 for Android

The VMware AirWatch® team is excited to announce that AirWatch Agent 6.2 for Android is publicly available. 

What’s New in this App Version

  • Support for Android N: Enrollment and existing EMM support for all devices running Android 7.0 Nougat.
  • Marshmallow permissions in Enrollment Wizard: The introduction of the Android Marshmallow OS brings great usability and management features. One feature is a new application permissions model where the app requests to use a device feature (i.e. access to camera, location, etc.) at the time it is launched. This is different from Google’s traditional permissions model where the end user grants the application access to all the permissions it requires within Google Play at the time the application is downloaded. With Android Marshmallow’s runtime permissions framework, the end user has the option of granted or denying the application access to this feature at runtime. The end user also has the ability to turn these permissions on/off from within the devices applications settings. During enrollment, the end user can select which permissions to provide the Agent, along with the reasons why these permissions are required.
  • Enterprise wipe on reaching maximum number of failed attempts to login with SSO: If SSO is Enabled, the device will be Enterprise Wiped after the maximum number of failed attempts, after providing a warning and giving the user an option to use "Forgot Passcode" to reset their passcode. If SSO is Disabled, the app data will be wiped after the maximum number of failed attempts.
  • Integration with Google's SafetyNet APIs for Device Attestation: The SafetyNet service provides a method that the Agent can use to analyze the device where it is installed. The Agent uses software and hardware information on the device to create a profile of that device. The service then attempts to match the profile created to a list of device models that have passed Android compatibility testing. This check can help you decide if the device is configured in a way that is consistent with the Android platform specifications and has the capabilities to run your app.
  • Implemented generic OEM Service updates including:
    • Support for Janam and DLI devices
    • Restrictions for allowing USB Mass Storage on devices
    • Silent activation as device administrator during auto enrollment
  • Added the ability to enroll into Android for Work - Work Profile without adding a Google account: The end user does not get prompted for setting up a Google Play account for the Work profile during enrollment.

  • Prior Version is Installed – Direct end users to update the app when prompted. The application seamlessly updates over the existing application version without disrupting device enterprise functionality.
  • Prior Version is Not Installed – Direct end users to download it from the Google Play Store.
